The Pittsburgh Hornets made their debut in the International-American Hockey League (later simply the American Hockey League) in 1936-37 and continued operations until 1955-56 when their home, the Duquesne Gardens, was torn down. They returned to the AHL in 1961-62 after the construction of the Civic Arena and lasted until 1966-67, winning their third and final Calder Cup (the AHL's championship), before moving out in favor of the the expansion NHL Penguins.
